Collaboration Season: Rita, Maison and More

Words by Hannah Rabbitt

NOTHING gets my palms sweaty with excitement like good collaboration. Two beautiful things?! And these upcoming team-ups are worth the excitement. Trust me.

Maison Martin Margiela x Converse

Converse is the brand eponymous for street ready, funky footwear and a go-to for an everyday shoe. Maison Margiela is the epitome of refined, relaxed French chic. Put that together and what do we have? Lust-worthy foot candy that you can wear basically 24/7, that’s what.

Always looking for creative ways to spice up the ordinary, Margiela has taken Azure Blue and Viking Red coloured leather Chucks and Purcells and actually painted them off white. The idea is that the more you sport your fly shoes around town, the more the paint will wear and crack to show the colour underneath. Voila; very cool, personalised sneakers.

This will be the second time the two have paired up and these bad boys will be available from this Saturday 24th May. They retail at $300 a pop but with limited numbers available, best be quick.

Rita Ora x Adidas

The singer, famed for her edgy ensembles and that red lipstick-blonde bob combo, is often spotted rocking the brands gear so it’s only fitting that she team up with them to create what I’m sure will be some seriously fresh get-ups.

The collaboration with Rita will consist of five capsule collections released over several months, and will include both clothes and shoes. The first instalment- the ‘Black’ collection- will be released August 21 followed by ‘Pastel’ and ‘Colorblock Pack’ on September 4. The final two- ‘Spray’ and ‘Roses’- will hit shelves November 1.

The collections have said to be in the works since September when the singer was approached at New York Fashion week.

Rita’s inspiration for the collaboration?

“I wanted people to be comfortable but be sexy at the same time. The inspiration actually for that was that I used to have these trousers with these see-through panels but they got ruined in the wash and I could never find another pair.”

The 23-year-old worked at a sneaker store when she was younger and would sell the brand to customers; how fitting.

So far we know we can expect mesh paneling, one look inspired by Rita’s dove tattoos and the floral hoodie that the songster uploaded to Instagram.

Miss Ora follows in the footsteps of fellow trendy singers Pharrell and Kanye West who have previously done lines with the brand. But Rita is the first female artist to design for the brand. You go girl.
