MOST people want to get married and then jet off to a romantic Honeymoon, which can be cherished until the end of your time. So what happens when the ideal situation of romance is thrown into a combination of horror and regret? You get the new indie horror flick from Leigh Janiak, who debuted it at SXSW this year, to an audience of full praise for the new found terror in everybody’s ideal situation.

Honeymoon is not your typical idea of a horror film but does take some concepts from previous films, but this time enhances the stereotypical presence and presents an expected chill that no one would want to experience. Director Leigh Janiak uses Game of Thrones star Rose Leslie in the lead as Bea who has just married her partner Paul (Harry Treadaway) who go to Beau’s  families upstate cabin in New York. When Rose goes into the woods, Bea starts to experience a different person and things go completely haywire, making their Honeymoon go into a chaos of mystery.

Firstly, I am so keen to see Honeymoon as it looks incredible on all aspects within its genre. The story is somewhat traditional but the trailer presents a solid movement within the bodysnatching genre of horror, just making you want to know what the hell is happening. This is Leigh’s debut film and what an incredible way to get things started in his career, with such a terrifying concept.

With a small cast, the film is going to have to rely on the acting skills of both Harry Treadaway and Rose Leslie, who already look promising in their parts. This is going to be one for fans of the horror genre, indie diehard’s and everyone who loves a thought provoking physiological film. Honeymoon has been making the rounds at international film festivals and has an official release date within the USA on the 12th September in a limited release and on VOD. Hopefully Australia will have the opportunity to see this in cinemas, but if not there is always the subtle release on Blu-Ray to look forward to.
