EACH year Palace Cinemas continues the conversation of cinema by introducing outstanding film festivals, captivating worldy cultures, genres and independent films that embrace the beauty of cinematic art…

This month we welcome Hot Docs, a festival that celebrates the “Outstanding and Outspoken” appreciation of documentaries as an art form. Brought to you by artistic director Richard Moore and Palace Cinemas, this beautiful collection of storytelling represents the diverse visions of cultures from around the world, with the aim to spark converation around unique subjects whilst celebrating documentaries and their makers.

Unlike the The Italian, French, Spanish, British, Essential Independants: America Cinema, Now  and  Scandinavian festivals this reaches a different audience, while still accommodating to their followers.

A Life of its Own

“It seemed to me that Australia could do with a taster of Hot Docs and this program is my selection of 24 of the “hottest docs” from around the globe (15 different countries),” says artist director Richard Moore.

Continuing “Moore’ says; “It includes two world premieres of new Australian productions; Charlie Hill Smith’s Motorkite Dreaming and Hellen Kapalos’s timely look at the issue of medical marijuana, A Life of its Own. Apart from these two, 90 percent of this program will have screened at Toronto’s Hot Docs 2016 program, or have played there in the last 12 months.”

Mr Gaga

Other highlights of Hot Docs include the opening night film Mr Gaga, The Legacy of Frida Kahlo, The Sex Temple and many more.

All in all, this is an incredible achievement within the Australian cinema scene, one that advocates the notion of documentaries being “The New Black”, and one that invites everyone to explore a point of difference while being culturally educated.

To celebrate the welcome of Hot Docs, Moustache Magazine have some double passes to give-away.  To enter simply send your names and address to info@moustachemagazine.com,to go into the draw.
