IT all began in 2009 when J.J. Abrams rebooted the beloved Star Trek series, bringing a fresh and modern approach whilst paying homage to the original series. The film became a success and this month we have the latest chapter that takes James T. Kirk, Commander Spock and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise on voyage beyond their expectations…

If you were always a fan or like me never really watched the original series, there is no denying Star Trek (2009) and Into The Darkness (2013) were highly enjoyable films. For many, the latter was considered a disappointment but with Justin Lin now behind the lens, redemption almost seems inevitable.

“Star Trek Beyond,” the highly anticipated next instalment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (“The Fast and the Furious” franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In “Beyond,” the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.

At first I had my reservations after seeing the first trailer, which borrowed its style off the successful marketing of Marvel’s Guardians of The Galaxy (2014). A few trailers later and I was sold, as the film really promised something that is going to be entertaining and full of substance.

With the cast all returning for their latest adventure, it allows anyone who has seen the last two instalments a further chance to catch up with these characters and take the journey with them to meet their next obstacle aka Idris Elba who plays the antagonist Krall, who is unrecognisable in character and also surrounded by so much mystery.

Rising star Sofia Boutella who hit it big time after her viscous performance in Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014) stars as Jaylah another character who is surrounded by mystery, too yet seems to have a more positive interaction with the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise. Honestly the cast alone gives the film a serious push to make this a must see.

In a nut shell, ‘STAR TREK BEYOND’ has all the right elements to be one of this year’s most successful and entertaining films. As we are in a time dominated by the fandom of the Star Wars universe, it is refreshing to see more this crew and I hope we can see many more.
