THE streets of Tokyo are often depicted as a vibrant centre of colour, technology and mixed fashion that all come together to form the heart of a futuristic epicentre, but when Japanese photographer Hiroharu Matsumoto captures the city streets another side is revealed…

A member of the National Geographic, this Tokyo based artist and photographer offers a different view of the streets of Tokyo, using the play of light and shadow as he captures his objects in-between public spaces, distancing them from the busy environment of the city in black and white images.

“Loneliness is an inherent feeling for the people of this town. I expressed it in a large space of monochrome,” says “Matsumoto’ when describing his own work.

Although simple, in understanding the essence of the Japanese culture his images really speak to you about the sense of peace and harmony within your own comfort.
