When ASUS launched its Republic of Gamers brand for gamers a few years ago, we had no idea how successful it would be today. The brand has pushed the boundaries of what's possible, particularly by focusing on its line of laptops. ASUS has really pushed the boundaries in recent months with devices like the ROG XG Mobile portable GPU and the impressive Zenbook 17 Fold OLED. This week, however, the brand announced the continuation of one of its most popular series, launching the all-new ASUS ROG Strix Scar 18 in South Africa.

Next-generation hardware power
The ROG Strix line has always been at the cutting edge of computing hardware. And it's no different for the Strix Scar 18.
It is equipped with the latest Intel® Core™ i9-13980HX processor. Meanwhile, it offers an option between NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4090 and 4080 Laptop GPU variants. The system is capable of consuming up to 175W on the GPU, bringing the overall system power to 240W. It uses Dynamic Boost and Manual performance modes.
Finally, it has a MUX switch with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus, which intelligently guarantees optimal frame rates when plugged in. Additionally, it also ensures better battery life when not plugged in.
Always cool under pressure
Another aspect of the ROG line is its cutting-edge cooling system. ASUS develops its own fans in-house, including ROG Tri-Fan technology. It was first introduced in 2022 and has been further optimized to achieve the best performance under load.
The improvement includes a full-width heatsink on the Flow .
Additionally, internal cooling is taken care of by vents all around the frame. This ensures better air circulation so that all components operate at optimal temperatures.
Breathtaking visual displays
As we head towards 2023, the standard 17″ screen on a gaming laptop could be a thing of the past. The ROG Strix Scar 18, as its name suggests, now sports an 18″ screen. Additionally, it adjusts to a 16:10 aspect ratio, providing a much better true area across the panel.
It features the new ROG Nebula Display, which gives you fast, bright and vibrant picture quality. This display also features a high refresh rate panel, with 240Hz and a 3ms response time.
You're also covered when it comes to color with a 100% DCI-P3 color space and Pantone certification.

The ROG Strix line was developed for gamers. It offers the best equipment in the industry to guarantee the best performance. In addition, it also features an optimized design with the possibility of customizing it even further.
With the ASUS Armory Crate, you can customize your performance levels as you use the device and put together an impressive light display. Users can choose from quiet operation to turbo-charged use while gaming, which automatically adjusts voltage, fans, and finely tuned experience when you need it most.
RGB lighting is present on the keyboard and adorns the perimeter of the chassis. The new light bar on the rear vents brings a fabulous display, with Aura Sync that lets you sync the RGB light show with your other ASUS RGB devices. Additionally, you can also create your own effects to further enhance your experience.
ASUS is also bringing back the Armor Cap, which lets you change your style on the fly. You'll have two caps to choose from in the box, with additional styles available from stores that stock the unit.
