What is Aavegotchi? (GHST)

Aavegotchi & GHST token explained

Aavegotchi is an Ethereum-based crypto-collecting game in which participants can purchase and farm Aavegotchis, non-fungible token (NFT) avatars that are used to explore and interact with the Aavegotchi digital universe.

Each Aavegotchi avatar is a digital collectible with unique attributes defined by a rarity score. This score is calculated based on certain character traits, wearables associated with the avatar, a kinship score based on the number of times the player interacts with the avatar and the quantity of aTokens powered by the avatar. ‘Aave used for avatar.

The platform taps into the nostalgia of the digital handheld game Tamagotchi and enriches classic gameplay with blockchain-enabled features. Aavegotchi brings together many popular aspects of crypto into a unified platform: decentralized finance (DeFi), blockchain gaming, staking, and digital land ownership.

Aave takes its name from the Finnish word for “spirit” and Aavegotchis are represented by a cartoon spirit, hence the name of the associated token: GHST.

GHST is the primary utility token of the Aavegotchi ecosystem and is used to buy and sell goods across the Aavegotchi world, including the Aavegotchis themselves. GHST can also be used for additional rewards and transferred between users like other cryptocurrencies.

Who invented Aavegotchi?

Aavegotchi was developed by Singapore-based Pixelcraft Studios, led by a number of experienced programmers and developers in the NFT and DeFi world.

Aavegotchi was officially launched in September 2020, and in the first token distribution, 5 million GHST tokens were distributed to private sale participants, 500,000 to presale participants, and 2 million to the development team, the rest being distributed via public sale.

How does Aavegotchi work?

To obtain an Aavegotchi, a user must first receive GHST tokens from an exchange like Kraken. With their GHST, participants can either purchase an Aavegotchi directly or purchase a portal, which is a pack of ten Aavegotchis from which users can only choose one.

Aavegotchi avatars can also be thought of as trust accounts, which hold demarcated tokens. When summoning a new Aavegotchi, a user can also use a minimum amount of Aave-based aTokens, which are cryptocurrencies tied to the value of another asset, with their Aavegotchi avatar in order to increase its rarity value.

The amount of aTokens used for an Aavegotchi is called its Spiritual Strength and the Aavegotchi's value increases based on this number. Additionally, an Aavegotchi's Spirit Force generates a return on investment for a participant's aTokens through Aave's lending protocol, increasing the number of tokens deployed on Aavegotchis over time.

Aside from their spiritual power, aavegotchis possess two other attributes that contribute to their rarity and value:

  • Traits are randomly chosen for Aavegotchis when they are summoned and are rated based on their relative rarity. Energy, experience, and brain size are examples of traits that all influence Aavegotchi rarity and in-game performance.
  • Wearables give each Aavegotchi a unique appearance, increase its stats and rarity value, and can be bought, sold, or traded separately on the Aavegotchi Marketplace.

Aavegotchis can also use consumables to temporarily improve their stats when participating in games throughout the Aavegotchi ecosystem.

Finally, users can use their GHST tokens to unlock REALMs, which are tokens representing land holdings in the digital world inhabited by the Aavegotchis.

As with Aavegotchis itself, all transactions with wearables, consumables and REALMs use GHST.

Why do Aavegotchis and GHST have value?

Aavegotchi avatars derive their value from their Spirit Force, which represents their financial support, unique characteristics, and wearables. Characters with a high Spirit Force value are rare and therefore have greater collectability in the market. Players can improve the rarity value of their Aavegotchi by placing more aTokens on them or upgrading their wearables.

GHST's value is tied to the Aavegotchi ecosystem and can be used to stake, transfer, and purchase different items in the Metaverse.

Finally, GHST is used to participate and be rewarded for governance within the AavegotchiDAO, the governing body that allows token holders to vote on important decisions that influence the future direction of the project.

Why use GHST?

As the base currency of the Aavegotchi world, investors may wish to purchase GHST to fund their in-game purchases of Aavegotchi, portals, wearables, consumables, and collectibles.

Investors may also value GHSTs if they are interested in voting on the game's future development through the AavegotchiDAO.

Additionally, investors interested in earning additional in-game rewards may be interested in purchasing and investing their GHST tokens.
