AMD has positioned itself as the manufacturer of high-end processors for laptops. The Ryzen 9 7945HX is the fastest mobile processor ever released. In gaming, it's 10% faster than Intel's Core i9-13950HX and more power efficient with fewer cores. The Ryzen 7045HX line is based on the Ryzen 7000 “Raphael” family for desktops, repurposed into BGA parts for laptops.
Codenamed Dragon Range, the Ryzen 7045HX range is the first range of laptop processors to use chiplet architecture. With up to sixteen Zen 4 cores, it delivers class-leading laptop performance with great battery life, outperforming Intel's hybrid architecture in all segments.
Compared to its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 6900HX, the Ryzen 9 7945HX is 78% faster in multi-threaded workloads and 18% faster in single-threaded workloads. After being beaten by Alder Lake-HX for an entire cycle, it also takes back the mobile gaming crown.
Dragon series laptops are already available, but you'll have to shell out a hefty sum to get your hands on one of them. Even the cheapest Ryzen 9 7945HX laptop (with a GeForce RTX 4070 mobile GPU) costs almost $2,000, with RTX 4090 variants going up to $4,000. It is better to opt for a Ryzen 7 7745HX or a Ryzen 5 7645HX accompanied by an RTX 4070 or 4080 for optimal gaming power. Anything higher is not worth your hard-earned money as the gains will be minimal.
