Widgets are one of the best features introduced by Android back in the day. They allow you to access useful information or perform quick actions without having to open the application.
However, to access the widget, you must first unlock the device, as widgets were only allowed on the lock screen for a short time between Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and Android 5.0 Lollipop. For some reason, Google decided to remove this possibility without any explanation.
This could change with Android 15, as the latest beta hints that widgets will be allowed on the lock screen. Android 14 introduced customizable lock screen shortcuts and clock styles, so it's not unusual for Google to continue making the lock screen more customizable.
Adding these widgets is done via a new area of the lock screen which will be accessible by dragging it from the right. This area will allow you to place widgets, although it is currently limited to Google widgets (Calendar, Clock, Finances, etc.).
It remains to be seen whether this feature will ultimately make it to Android 15, but if it does, it could be a nice addition.
