Exciting theories about the next game

Des théories passionnantes sur le prochain jeu

Now that players have completed Santa Monica Studio's new God of War Ragnarök game, it's time for theories about the upcoming sequel, God of War 6, to start rolling in. Kratos has just succeeded in defeating Thor and Odin in the final battle, and bringing peace to the nine kingdoms of Norse mythology, starting with Asgard.

There are a lot of awesome characters that fans would love to see return, like the dwarf brothers Brok and Sindri, who are blacksmiths who provide Kratos with his upgraded weapons and Blades of Chaos, like the Leviathan axe, throughout the saga Nordic. There is also Tyr, the Norse god of war, who advocates peace and whom Kratos comes to respect. There's also the unexpected ally they found in the World Serpent, a giant snake-like creature named Jormungandr. There's also the interesting appearance of Angrboda, who possesses Fenrir, is one of the last giants and is believed to be Loki's love interest. Will something ever happen between her and Atreus?

There are about as many theories as there are players, because everyone has their own ideas. However, three of them are getting attention on Reddit right now. So here are some theories on what the next God of War game will be.

First theory

The first theory about God of War 6 was suggested by a Redditor named With-Cheese. Since beating the game themselves, they have started to brainstorm some ideas for what the next game has in store. At the end of God of War Ragnarok, Kratos is seen as a savior, meaning the game could go in many directions. One of the suggested approaches was for someone like a lesser god or even a mortal to go to Kratos and ask for his help.

In this theory, the pantheon of the person going to ask for help has become paranoid and power hungry, especially since Kratos has already wiped out two different pantheons, the Greek and the Norse. So if he were to go and save civilization from its own power-hungry gods, he would become even more of a hero.

Second theory

The second suggested theory for God of War 6 also comes from With-Cheese and offers a slightly different route with the same premise. In it, a paranoid pantheon (perhaps from ancient Egyptian mythology?), frightened by the strength and power of Kratos, tries to kill him before he thinks of attacking their pantheon.

Either that or the paranoid Pantheon kidnaps Kratos' son Atreus in an attempt to find Kratos' weaknesses in order to prevent Kratos from killing their Pantheon as well, but this would cause Kratos to go to their lands to find and save his son , likely causing the pantheon to fall in the process, probably along with his allies Freya and Mimir.

Third theory

The third theory was suggested by a Redditor known as Go_easy_on_me_folks and indicates that the next game won't follow Kratos at all and will instead look to Atreus as the next God of War. This theory is based on the fact that Ragnarök made much of Atreus who wanted to follow his own path and that Kratos had to give up watching over his son. Many other Reddit users agree that Atreus will likely be the focus of God of War 6.

Likewise, No-Arm-4522 suggested something similar: Kratos would be a fully retired and beloved god in the Norse lands now that he's saved them. They also pointed out that there are a lot of possibilities to follow due to how little is explored about Atreus outside of his prophecies. Things like him being able to talk to animals, his half-giant abilities coming to light, or maybe even some secrets his mother Faye kept. Wouldn't it be great to play as Atreus as he embarks on a new path?

Hopefully there will be another game in the series. Of course, such a beloved franchise is unlikely to end anytime soon, but you never know when Kratos might hang up his hat. Director Cory Barlog and director Eric Williams, who were responsible for the first and second games in the Norse saga respectively, haven't mentioned what might happen in the next game. So we can only hope that the studio Sony's Santa Monica isn't finished with the God of War story.
