The original Snake Icon is one of the first games introduced to the internet years ago. Its presence should be familiar due to the game's simple premise, which essentially involves players spending hours feeding an animated snake and watching it grow on many outdated mobile devices. It was also available as a classic arcade game that could be controlled using a controller or buttons. There are several snake games available today that attempt to replicate good old-fashioned fun.

Since you probably haven't touched the original game in years (and younger generations probably haven't even tried it), Google is giving you a chance to play Snake (for free). And for the older ones, it will definitely give you a great flashback with a wave of nostalgia. In fact, those who had a Nokia phone in the late 90s (early 2000s), will have fond memories of the classic fashion game. Who would have thought that all these years later this game would still be fun?

However, in typical Google fashion, there are some differences (minor improvements) in Google Snake compared to other versions. That said, it's still a fun pastime, just like the original, and it's a free game.

What is the Snake?

In the early 1980s, a video game called “Snake” was created by David Shin and Taro Igarashi. It was one of the first video games to use a scrolling screen and became one of the most popular games in arcades around the world.

The goal of the game is to move a snake through a maze, avoiding obstacles and eating food pellets or a piece of food that will make the snake grow. The player can also eat other snakes in order to grow even bigger. The game has been simplified for mobile phones into a single screen where players must navigate the screen, controlling the direction of the snake while avoiding hitting the screen edges/screen boundary or the own body of the snake, with its tail swinging and which has now become a barrier.

Snake is a simple game that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It can be played on different devices including mobile phones and computers. Of course, in 2022 there are many different versions of Snake games available on the internet.

How to play the Google Snake game

Since the Snake game is linked to Google Maps, it is available on both browsers and smartphones. To load it, simply visit snake.googlemaps.com (or type “play Snake” in Google Search) into your browser to launch the game. You can use this link on iOS and Android mobile devices, and the game has even new sound and visual effects.

Once you are on the Google Maps Snake game homepage, you will see a big “Start” button and some 8-bit characters on a map. The next step is to press this button.

Unlike the normal version of Snake, this Google version has you choose a subway train at the start of the game. You can choose where you prefer to navigate from a list of options (again 8 style). bits) including the following locations: Tokyo, London, Cairo, San Francisco, Sao Paulo and Le Monde. The design of each train varies depending on the location chosen.

Once you have chosen a location, you can start the game and start playing Snake. At the end of your turn, the game indicates the player's score.

How to win at Snake

Believe it or not, there is a way to finish Snake. Although it may seem unimaginable, a Russian player recently posted a GIF on a forum showing proof of his victory. In the 2-minute GIF (which was sped up from a 13-minute clip), the snake passes through 6,372 cells and consumes 100 pellets, increasing its length by 796 cells to a total of 801.

The text at the end apparently reads: “And now we are going to show an animated film. Connection to server… No connection. THANKS. Everyone is free.”

How to play the other version of the snake game?

Snake game on Google Maps

Just type “Snake Game” into your Google search engine and you will see this version at the top of your search results. You can start the adventure by clicking on “Play”. There is a settings option that will allow you to select your snake and the fruits it will sneak in to eat. These come in different shapes and colors.

Google Maps Snake Game Rules

Just like the classic Snake, this version plays the same, with the snake's direction controlled by the up, down, left, and right arrow keys (user input keys).

You can play Snake once the train starts moving, as you will have to pick up the passengers who are animated like humans. The objective is to pick up as many passengers as possible until the train crashes into itself or out of bounds.

If it crashes, the game ends and your score appears. At this point, you can restart, exit, or share the high scores with your Google contacts by email or with a link.

Best 8 Google Snake Game Mods

Mod Menu

In 2010, Google's home page cost the global economy $120 million in lost productivity. For what ? Because office workers around the world have been hypnotized by the latest Google Doodle: a real Pac-Man game.

Spending as many hours on Google's homepage as playing FarmVille on Facebook was an opportunity too good for the tech giant to pass up, leading to Google games becoming the standard for the society. This is where the Snake Google game comes in.

A Google take on the arcade classic, the game has become a sensation with players competing for the highest score. However, once you've seen everything there is to see in the game, you'll feel like you're playing Minecraft for the millionth time, and you might want to try Snake Google game mods, which give a new twist to this web browser title. Good news for fans who might think vanilla browser mode is the only way to play the game, there are a ton of interesting mods that will spice up your game and make getting the final score much more satisfying. Mods may seem a bit like a google snake hack, but it's all in the name of adding wonderful new things.

In this list, we are going to look at 8 of the best Google Snake game mods available for your Chrome browser.

Dark Mode Mod

Dark mode is one of those things that has become standard in all modern apps. If you want to play Google's arcade classic at night, while minimizing the damage to your eyes, the Dark Mode Mod is definitely one you should try.

This self-explanatory Google Snake mod adds a dark mode to the game window and some UI elements, like menu icons. Additionally, this mod allows players to customize the game's colors to their liking, without compromising gameplay.

Animated colors for Google Snake

Yet another visual mod, the Animated Colors mod allows players to change the usually static background of the Snake Google game for a much more lively background. For an action game like this, the added light patterns breathe new life into this arcade classic.

If you're a fan of customizing your games' visuals, then Animated Colors and its robust set of customization tools is the one you should get. Now you can aim for the highest score in style!

AIYIWOWTGWL

This curiously titled mod turns a quirk that happens when your internet connection is interrupted into an extreme difficulty setting for the game Snake Google.

Basically, the mod makes the snake's body invisible so you can't see its movements, and that's about it. Now how are players supposed to get the apples and avoid collisions when they can't even see the snake's body in the arena? Well, it depends on luck and a little memorization.

Mouse Mod for Google Snake

Tired of using your keyboard (and snake key mode) as your only tool to play the game? Well, this Google Snake mod makes it so that you can use your mouse to control your character's movement. It will be like moving to a new town after living your whole life in a small town, trust me – the added difficulty and unpredictability of the mouse mode controls add an extra layer of complexity to this challenging game.

The instructions for the game's new controls are pretty self-explanatory. The mouse cursor now guides the entire body of the snake, making it a little easier – sometimes – to collect apples. This is a great challenge for those looking for new ways to play with various modifications.

Time Keeper Mod for Google Snake

One of the best things about this web browser game is watching your score increase. However, for some reason the game doesn't save your progress between sessions. This Google Snake mod corrects this oversight, keeping a record of your time and your personal best score. Ideal for the most competitive players who want to show their true talent.

Although a true arcade mode would have been another great addition with the help of a mod, as it stands, the Time Keeper Mod remains one of the most useful Google Snake mods for high-score enthusiasts.

GoogleSnakeWall-EndgameSooner

Although the name might suggest that this Google Snake mode makes the game more difficult, the reality is that it makes it much easier by removing walls on all sides of the arena. It is therefore quite easy to reach the longest possible snake in the game, because the only possible collision is with the snake's body.

While this makes the game considerably easier, it goes against one of the game's most famous features: its difficulty. Yet even though the objective of the game is somewhat different, it is still just as addictive.

Change tray size

This mod allows players to change the size of the game's arena to their liking. It also removes walls in all directions just like the previous mod, making the game much easier and friendlier for newcomers.

Change Board Size is a great way to start playing Snake Google before moving up a gear with the game's original arcade mode. Want to navigate the map endlessly? How about moving indefinitely on the vertical axis? This is what this mod allows.

Google Snake Menu Mod

We saved the best for last. The Google Snake Menu mod adds a plethora of new features to the addictive action game, making it feel even more like a premium package, adding a ton of extra menu stuff. This handy menu tool allows players to customize almost every aspect of the game, significantly improving the overall Google Snake gaming experience. This is one of the mods that is exclusively available on the Chrome browser.

Developed by DarkSnakeGang, this mod is, essentially, an all-in-one bundle of features to enrich the user's gaming experience. While most Google games are pretty basic arcade classics by design, the Google Snake Menu mod offers a variety of new game modifications to spice up your gameplay.

Things like removing walls, changing characters, changing the layout of the scene, snake skin, changing the background, changing images, changing the food the snake eats , snake color, as well as snake speed and size, additional narration and much more, are included in this complete mod with a bunch of equivalent design tools. The instructions are also very easy to follow, allowing players – and modders – of any skill level to immerse themselves in the full Google Snake Menu mod experience. If you can only get one of the mods on our list, or if you're just toying with the idea of adding mods to some Google games, then definitely give the Google Snake Menu mod a try.

Downloading the Google Snake Menu Mod can be a bit confusing, so we managed to find a little guide that will help with the whole process. First of all, you need to download the mod from the GitHub site. To do this, find the Google Snake Menu Mod page on GitHub, and you'll want to look under Assets. There you will find a list of links which are source codes of menu.html. Click on the html file and it will start downloading immediately (if your firewall or browser is blocking this download, it will tell you how to fix it).

Once the file is downloaded, you need to go to the bookmarks manager of your Chrome browser. From there, open a new tab in your Chrome browser and type chrome://Bookmarks into the search bar, then press Enter. This will take you directly to Chrome's bookmarks page, where you can manage your open bookmarks bar. In the upper right corner you will find three small dots. Tap on the dots to open a drop-down menu that will show you the Import Bookmarks option, where you can add your new file.

To import the html file, you will need to select the file you downloaded from the import menu. You should be able to find the file in your Downloads folder, unless you have moved it elsewhere. Once the file is selected, click the open button to download your file. Once the file has been successfully uploaded, it will appear in the Imported Files section (along with any other files you have imported).

Finally, you will want to know how to run the Google Snake Menu Mod. This can be done by clicking on the three dots where you downloaded the file. From there, you will need to type Google Snake Game into Chrome's search bar to launch the game. When it appears, click play to open it in your browser. Then select your bookmarks list (you can also use the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+B to open your bookmarks list). While the game is running, click on the mod to activate it, and you will be free to modify your Google Snake game as you wish.

This is one of the most complicated mods to implement, but also one of the most comprehensive that will give you the most bang for your buck (figuratively of course, it's all free).

For those happy with the vanilla retro arcade game experience, go for it. The game is free and an easy trip down nostalgia road for many of us. For younger kids, it can be nice to introduce them to something we enjoyed growing up and probably spent hours playing on our Nokia phones after school. Ahh, simple days.

For those looking to model games, there are a ton of awesome options available for you. If you want a detailed guide like the one we gave for the Google Snake Menu Mod, feel free to let us know in the comments!
