Logitech M240 Silent Review

Logitech M240 Silent Review

As an avid gamer, I've often limited myself to using gaming mice over the years. For the better part of a decade, the gaming mouse has been my daily driver, whether on my PC in the living room, working on my laptop, or gaming in between. That being said, the standard mouse still has its place among many users and may even be a preferred option for some. A few weeks ago, Logitech introduced its new Silent product line. The Logitech M240 Silent mouse was part of the launch pack.

This Bluetooth mouse was designed with one main goal: to operate as quietly as possible. Plus, it has some nice touches, which I explore further.

Conception and design

Having been used to gaming peripherals over the years, there is a huge difference between these and the new M240. The most important of these is the size disparity. Comparing to my daily driver, the Logitech G502 X Plus weighs 106g, and the M240 73.8g. To put that into perspective, that's a 50% increase over the M240.

Much like the M240's weight reduction, it is also much smaller. It fits perfectly in the palm of the hand. That said, it is possible to switch from one category of mouse to another. However, it took time to reduce the size and weight of the mouse to make it easy to use, given its light weight.

The overall design is simple. It is ambidextrous and features a scroll wheel in the center. The left and right buttons form a one-piece cover with a frame and a single body part. The battery is housed in an opening on the bottom. Its design takes inspiration from a previous Logitech mouse, as evidenced by the inclusion of the Wi-Fi dongle enclosure, which is not used with the M240.

Installation and configuration

The setup is simple. With only Bluetooth support as a connectivity option, as soon as you turn on the Logitech M240, it will notify your connecting device, prompting you to connect. On a Windows laptop, you then need to select the sign in option, which only takes a few seconds, and that's it.

Once the Bluetooth device is paired, another prompt asks for the installation of the Logi Options+ software. This software allows for a certain level of customization. However, it's limited, with just three buttons and a standard build.

Setting up the M240 is very simple. Once you've paired your Bluetooth, you're ready to go.

Performance and battery life

As previously stated, the main focus of the Logitech M240 is its quiet approach. And it lives up to its name. The button clicks are impressively smooth, both to the touch and with the internal technologies.

When in use, the mouse is excellent. The click of the buttons is very quiet, supporting Logitech's claim that click noise is reduced by 90%. Having also tested the mouse at midnight, the clicks are still low and are ideal for anyone looking for a quiet approach to night work. However, the scroll wheel button is slightly noisier than the other buttons. However, this device does not risk waking the neighbors and works perfectly in both cases.

Another aspect of the buttons is tactile feedback. Unlike mouse buttons which have a more pronounced spring back, the recoil is much gentler. I'm the proud owner of a play cube – for all my clicking tendencies – and the sensation is very similar. Using the M240 is almost a therapeutic approach with every click.

The device has an estimated lifespan of 18 months on a single AA battery. Lead times may vary, given the length of the estimate. It is difficult to establish the truth without confirming it over time, and a reading of 100% after three weeks of use indicates that the device has not dented the battery life. At current rates, the battery should last well over two years, which is excellent.

Is the Logitech M240 Silent worth it?

If you don't like using a large mouse or are looking for an exceptionally quiet option, the Logitech M240 Silent is a great buy. It is pleasant to hold in the hand and each click provides a feeling of calm for an optimal experience.

It is also very inexpensive. Its recommended retail price is 399 euros, but there are many more affordable prices online.
