What is personally identifiable information (PII)?
Microsoft Personally Identifiable Information (PII) is information that is used to identify an individual to whom that information applies and that can be reasonably inferred by direct or indirect means. For example, name, email address, mailing address, social security number, biometrics, telephone number, etc., alone or in combination with other linked or linkable personal or identifiable information to a specific person, such as date and place of birth, mother's maiden name, etc. are most often considered personal information.
However, with the rise of digital technology, personally identifiable information (PII) is increasing rapidly.
