Transformers: Rise of the Beasts
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts presents itself as the sequel to 2018's Bumblebee, which itself is a soft reboot of the long-running Transformers film franchise. The film is actually the first in a proposed trilogy, taking its time introducing new species of sentient robots, all originating from the planet Cybertron. We already know the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, but in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the majestic Maximals, the evil Predacons and the menacing Terrorcons. The Terrorcons are the coming Darkness that the Maximals are trying to repel.
We have director Steven Caple Jr, the creative mind behind Creed II, to thank for this fantastic new story. It introduces these new factions, all of which are descendants of the two original bot factions, the Maximals coming from the Autobots and the other two from the Decepticons.

Every character in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer identified
There's a lot going on in this trailer, but thankfully fans have done a fantastic job of breaking it down frame by frame. They've identified all the beloved old and new characters from Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. They even dissected the new characters, so we have a better idea of what to expect in the upcoming film.
1. Acree
Finally, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts introduces a female Transformer character who isn't just a cameo. Portrayed by Liza Koshy for this version, she is usually depicted alongside her sister as being on two wheels. However, it appears to be a red and white Ducati for this version.
2. Airazor
Yet another fantastic female Transformer. Played by the fabulous Michelle Yeoh, Airazor takes the form of a giant falcon. She is the winged protector of her faction, the Maximals, and will protect her family no matter the consequences.
3. Battletrap
Although we didn't see much of this character in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer, he did make a small, stealthy appearance as the orange and black tow truck that some recognize as a member of the Terrorcons. In this film, he is played by David Sobolov, one of the favorite voice actors in the Transformers franchise, who previously voiced Depth Charge in the Beast Wars cartoon.
4. Bumblebee
Everyone's favorite little yellow Autobot, Bumblebee, returns in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Wherever its fearless leader goes, he isn't far behind. He is not the most talkative hero, his larynx having been permanently damaged during a battle with Blitzwing. However, it still manages to remain sassy and fun. He often communicates with his drivers on Earth through his car's built-in radio and seems to have a deep love for humans despite everything he has experienced on Earth. Unfortunately, he sticks to his yellow Camaro this time.
5. Cheetor
The proud and youngest member of the Maxims, Cheetor is the fastest Maximal on four legs. His youth gives him so much confidence that he loves getting into trouble and appears to be having fun with the youngest Autobot character – Bumblebee – in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer.
6. Mirage
Voiced by Pete Davidson, the longtime member of the original Autobots appears to take the form of a Porsche 911. Mirage has the unique ability to create holograms. This characteristic has remained in all versions of Transformers.
7. Night owl
This Terrorcon character only appears in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer and is barely recognizable aside from a black and purple blur. However, its distinct color makes it impossible to miss. Played by Michaela Jaé Rodriquez, Nightbird is guaranteed to be a unique villain for the film's heroic factions.
8. Optimus Prime
It wouldn't be a Transformers movie without the appearance of the courageous leader of the Autobots. Played by Peter Cullen once again, we follow the famous red and blue truck as he begins to grow fond of and love the Earth. Unfortunately, this is where he realizes why she needs to be protected from the Decepticons and their evil descendants.
9. Optimus Primal
The mysterious giant gorilla from the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer and the leader of the Maximals is one of the most interesting characters added to the franchise. Played by Ron Perlman and known for being a wise leader, it's no coincidence that his name resembles that of Optimus Prime. Traditionally, the Beast Wars (animated series) takes place on Earth, several hundred years after the numerous conflicts between the precursors of the Transformers. So it’s fascinating to see their timelines intersect.
10. Rhinox
Also played by Sobolov, Rhinox is a Maximal who takes the form of an enormous rhinoceros. As its name and transformation suggest, it is a massive, strong and sturdy Maximal, ready to face any threat.
11. Scourge
An important Decepticon from the past, he can be seen punching poor Bumblebee in a fight seen in the trailer. Played by Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage, Scourge works with the menacing Terrorcons for this film.
12. Wheeljack
Meet the brilliant but sometimes problematic inventor of the Autobots, played by Christo Fernández. Appearing in the form of a Volkswagen Kombi, we can't wait to see what damage this character will cause in the new film.
Honorable mention
Stratosphere
Although he didn't make an appearance in the Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailer, he's a vital part of the team of awesome characters we hope to see more of in the film. Stratosphere is a living jet for the Autobots that helps transport them on their missions. Played by John DiMaggio, he allows the team to travel faster and as a unit, despite their incredible ability to fly (although not as fast as him).
We have so much to look forward to from this upcoming film. Additional characters may be introduced in subsequent Transformers: Rise of the Beasts trailers or in the film itself, as the director has big plans for the trilogy. There is already an incredible cast of actors and characters involved. We can't wait to see what happens.
