Some time ago, it was reported that Intel's Core i9-13900K is over 20% faster than the Ryzen 9 7950X in the new Hogwarts Legacy when paired with the GeForce RTX 4090. The benchmark has was performed at 1080p using the highest quality RT graphics preset in the game's “Hogsmeade” area. CapFrameX reported another test performed with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX paired with the Ryzen 9 7950X under the same conditions, but with the ray tracing disabled.
Interestingly, the Zen 4 + RDNA 3 combo ends up beating its Core i9-13900K + RTX 4090 rivals. These results are significant because the Radeon RX 7900 XTX costs significantly less than the GeForce RTX 4090 ($999 vs. $599). The Ryzen 9 7950X performs better with a Radeon due to the lower driver overhead on Adrenalin software. With GeForce drivers, the software is the main bottleneck rather than the hardware.
That said, the Core i9-13900K + RTX 4090 configuration does not come close to matching its red rival with an average refresh rate of 145 FPS (compared to 148 FPS). On the other hand, it is significantly better than the Ryzen-Radeon combo for bass by 1% (108 FPS versus 88 FPS).
The Core i9-13900K runs at 5.6GHz, consuming an average power of 105W with a maximum operating temperature of 68C. It was paired with DDR5-7600 memory, with a circular bus set to 4.9 GHz and the E-cores disabled. On the AMD side, the Ryzen 9 7950X runs at 5.43 GHz with DDR5-6000 memory and consumes 138 W on average.
On the GPU side, the GeForce RTX 4090 ran at 2.76 GHz, consuming 154W at just 44C. VRAM consumption remained below 10 GB. The Radeon RX 7900 XTX ran at 2.89 GHz, consuming almost twice as much power (302 W) at 63 °C. It consumed 10.17 GB of graphics memory. It consumed 10.17 GB of graphics memory on average.
