Supergirl: The Woman of Tomorrow

DC announced Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow at its studio's January 2023 press day, then suddenly went quiet on the project. In November last year, co-CEO James Gunn announced that the project had officially found its screenwriter in Ana Nogueira.

Ana Nogueira had already been hired by DC Studios to write the script for another Supergirl film, which was to be a spin-off of The Flash with Sasha Calle in the lead role. However, the project was scrapped entirely when DC Studios did a total overhaul. Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran liked the script written in 2022 so much that they asked him to return for their rebooted project.

After announcing that this version of Supergirl would be unlike any other, bringing a much darker perspective to a young girl who experienced far too much tragedy in the first 14 years of her life, the world of DC fell silent again on the project. Gunn favors Superman: Legacy while his cousin has been slightly sidelined. At least, that was the case until the list of candidates for the role of Supergirl in the upcoming film was announced.

Supergirl voice actress moves into live action

There's no doubt that there are plenty of beautiful actresses who have what it takes to play the role of Kara Zor-El in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow; there are a few that DC seems to be keeping a close eye on.

First up is Milly Alcock, a name we should all recognize for playing the young princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO's House of the Dragon. The Game of Thrones spinoff series gave her career a boost, and now she's a leading contender for the role of Supergirl.

Emilia Jones is one of the other actresses on the list who has received the most praise. With an acting career that includes Paolo Sorrentino's Youth, Netflix's Locke & Key and CODA, the Apple film that won Best Picture, Emilia Jones also has a good chance of landing the role.

That said, a young actress may have already landed the role without her realizing it. Meg Donnelly is an amazing young actress who has appeared in series like Zombies on Disney Channel. Remember her enigmatic vocal performance as DC's Supergirl in the animated films Legion of Superheroes and Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths Part One?

With James Gunn openly admitting that he wants to streamline the DC Universe and have more stars retain their roles in properties such as films, series and video games, it seems that Donnelly has a real chance of landing his first role in live-action in the DC universe.
