In 2015, the first Red Bull Kumite competition took place in Paris, where it remained until 2018. Then, in 2019, in honor of the “spiritual home of Street Fighter,” the competition was moved to Japan. Finally, after a short break due to Covid, the competition was moved to London (May 2021), then crossed the ocean to take place in Las Vegas (November 2021). Red Bull Kumite returns, and the two-day tournament takes place in South Africa! It will bring together 16 of the best Street Fighter players who will compete live for bragging rights for winning the first major Street Fighter 6 tournament.

When 2022 Hit the Streets Champion Jabhi “JabhiM” Mabuza learned that Red Bull Kumite was coming to South Africa this year, he said: “Red Bull Kumite coming to South Africa is MASSIVE! For years, Africans have been unable to travel to showcase their talents to the world due to visa and money issues; now the world is coming to us. Our local players will be very happy to participate for the first time in an internal tournament with international commentary. I am very excited to see how my brothers and sisters will react to this news and to see their faces when they participate in the tournament during the last chance playoffs.
It will certainly be an incredible event for spectators and participants. There's nothing like seeing sixteen people fight digitally to win the title.
