Justin Sun's Reaction to Multiple Hacks – An ‘Epic Airdrop' in the Works
Since the end of September, three cryptocurrency exchanges associated with Tron's Justin Sun – HTX, Poloniex and Heco Bridge – have suffered security breaches, resulting in the loss of millions in total. On September 25, 2023, Sun revealed that HTX was the victim of an attack that resulted in the loss of 5,000 Ethereum worth approximately $8 million.
On November 10, 2023, Poloniex suffered a security incident that resulted in the loss of approximately $114 million. It was just 12 days before another attack hit HTX's Heco chain, with hackers siphoning $86.6 million from the cross-chain bridge platform.
Subsequently, HTX announced a $30 million loss due to a hacker attack the next day and assured its users of a full replacement. HTX stressed that this loss was “extremely small compared to the platform’s overall resources.” On Friday, Sun addressed his 3.4 million X followers on social media and informed them that the two exchanges would once again allow deposits and withdrawals after a temporary suspension.
In addition, the co-founder of Tron suggested that a new token would arise from this incident. Sun said
“As HTX and Poloniex move closer to reopening, we will be launching an epic airdrop for users with assets. Please stay tuned! My deepest regrets go out to the users who were affected by the HTX hack and Poloniex. We will cover the losses and all assets are SAFE.”
Poloniex announced that it plans to resume deposits and withdrawals on November 30, 2023. The exchange advised its users to use new deposit addresses rather than relying on previously used ones. At 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) on Friday, HTX resumed Tron deposits and withdrawals after the temporary interruption.
