Time travel mechanism
With all the leaks and concept art circulating, fans have seen hints at different time periods, inspiring the idea that GTA 6 could feature detailed time travel mechanics, meaning players should be able to pass from one character to another and from one year to the next.
Fans have been excited about this concept which could mean the game could bring in characters we've already played as and allow us to explore the world in their shoes for a little while.
From a story perspective, it would be interesting to see this concept in action, as you would learn about the past and its connections to the new game as you progress through the world. Chances are, the decisions you make in the past will have a significant impact on the future and allow you to change history in radical and intriguing ways.
A fan of the Grand Theft Auto franchise used Unreal Engine 5 to show how this mechanic could be used in the game.

What could a time travel mechanism look like?
The creators of YouTube channel TeaserPlay have released a concept video of what the time travel mechanic could look like. The video begins with the first-person perspective of one of the game's three rumored characters as they wander around the world. The camera then switches to third person, and we see the character's back for a moment before seeing a screen where you can switch characters in three directions.
One of the other characters is selected, and the character moves up to show us a map of the GTA world, bouncing as it charges the next character. Then it moves down again, and we're still in third person as the camera looks around.
A second switch screen appears, this time between the years (1980 and 2022). 1980 is selected, and a screen shows the transition from 2022 to 1986, where we see a panning shot of the world while a third character walks around on screen. We then follow this character in a third-person perspective, as he continues to walk around the world and show off what he looks like.
The environments and character models are very detailed, and the fantastic lighting gives us a glimpse of what we can expect from the upcoming game's graphics.
The time travel mechanic would bring an interesting gameplay element to the GTA universe.
