LG 27GL650F-B Review - Tekpip

I got my hands on this monitor and couldn't help but write a review about the LG 27GL650F-B. The monitor is designed for use under normal working conditions and conditions.

This monitor is a real beast when it comes to gaming performance. The 1080p screen combined with a 144Hz refresh rate delivers super clear images that won't leave you behind.

And let me tell you, the response time is also perfect – no motion blur thanks to the black frame insertion feature.

But this monitor isn't just for gamers: its low input lag and fast refresh rate make it ideal for anyone looking for a smooth viewing experience. Moreover, right out of the box, the image quality is not to be outdone.

Wide viewing angles allow everyone to enjoy crystal clear images, regardless of their position! Plus, if you're looking for uniformity, look no further than this IPS display: the gray uniformity is exceptional.

Of course, like anything in life, there are always caveats. As an IPS monitor, don't expect much from it in dark rooms where contrast ratio and black uniformity can suffer somewhat compared to other monitors on the market.

Let me quickly touch on HDR support – while it is present, keep in mind that due to the lower brightness levels achievable in HDR mode and the limited color gamut capabilities , the results aren't as dramatic as some might hope, but overall it's certainly worth considering!

Performance

The LG 27GL650F isn't packed with gaming features. However, what it does have is pretty impressive. The combination of a 144Hz refresh rate and an IPS panel allows for smooth gaming and vibrant colors.

As gamers know, response times are essential for fast-action games, with slower pixel transitions leading to poor motion clarity. The LG 27GL650F may not outperform other 144Hz monitors, but its response time is excellent for an IPS display.

The overall response time of the monitor averages 12.4ms, but pixels are capable of achieving 80% of their color transition in less than six milliseconds, whether light or dark tones (the dark tones taking a little longer).

While this causes a slight afterglow, especially in dark-themed games like Witcher 3, it's absolutely not a problem.

Fortunately, there are three overdrive modes: Normal, Fast and Fast that improve screen response times significantly, producing clear motion. We prefer to use Fast mode even if we notice some overrun.

LG has also included the option to use its own “1ms Motion Blur Reduction Technology”.

While effective in improving motion clarity, we do not recommend it due to drawbacks such as backlight strobing, which significantly reduces screen brightness, creating a flat-looking image rather than a with vibrant colors, which can detract from the feeling of immersion desired by players.

This monitor works great with Freesync enabled when navigating crowded streets or tackling aggressive turns in GTA V, without screen tearing or stuttering, while maintaining perfect responsiveness throughout of the game, without additional input lag!

However ! It's worth noting that Freesync technology doesn't work with HDR or LG's “1ms motion blur reduction.” That said, you can enjoy very smooth gameplay thanks to G-Sync if you use an Nvidia graphics card (GeForce 10 series or higher) via the DisplayPort connection.

Although image quality is high, black uniformity could be improved. There's also a noticeable loss of backlighting around the edges, which makes dark gaming a bit more difficult.

That said, this monitor has a reticle that allows for better aiming during gaming, which is always handy.”
