According to The Information, Meta will pay up to $5 million over two years for six hours of studio work to use the image of a famous person as an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant.
Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated the artificial intelligence assistants at the company's Connect event last month. While the company has its own chatbot similar to ChatGPT, it also unveiled 28 new ones with different personalities that use celebrity images.
For example, Kendall Jenner's image is used for Billie, who appears as a big sister giving advice to users. And Tom Brady plays the role of Bru, a chatbot that allows you to discuss sports.
Meta also added creators such as MrBeast, the most subscribed person on YouTube, and TikTok star Charli D'Amelio.
According to The Information, Meta was initially willing to pay more than $1 million to use the stars' images, but paid more for the big names. The report does not specify who received $5 million, but it primarily refers to content creators.
For now, the AI assistants are text-only, but Meta's announcement video included clips of celebrities speaking as their AI counterparts.
In an interview with The Verge, Mark Zuckerberg said there is a “huge need” for AI versions of celebrities. He said, however, that this would be “more for next year” due to concerns about brand safety, as celebrities would want to ensure that their image is not used to make problematic statements.
