Bizarre boss battles (or boss fights) have always been an integral part of video games. And while most of these fights are tense and memorable, there have been a few bosses over the years that left us wanting more. We decided to put together a list of the weirdest video game boss fights we've faced over the years.

1. Giant Baby – Zombies Ate My Neighbors
Zombies Ate My Neighbors is ultimately one of the most underrated multiplayer games on the SNES. Not only does it have the bizarre premise of putting you in the shoes of Zeke and Julie, who are forced to save their neighbors from all sorts of horror movie creatures, but it also features a boss fight against an oversized baby. In a battle that could have been taken straight from the movie Honey I Blew Up The Baby, players must dodge this surprisingly fast giant baby that tries to stomp on them or spray them with water. It's really strange !
Metal Gear Solid 2's Fatman isn't just weird because of his appearance, wearing an oversized bomb squad suit and sipping a cocktail. But it was his use of rollerblades during the meeting that freaked us out. This boss moves at full speed on roller skates in a suit that is supposed to make such agility impossible for him. In a franchise filled with weird and wonderful boss encounters, The Fatman falls squarely into the weird part.
3. The Great and Powerful Poop – Conkers Bad Fur Day

The great and mighty Poo is a smart (literally) pile of shit who not only looks disgusting but also has a singing voice. While he throws shit at you, he serenades you with a surprisingly catchy tune. Naturally, the only way to stop him is to throw toilet paper in his mouth as he starts singing. “I am the Great Mighty Poop and I am going to throw my **** at you!”
I won't lie: this is one of the most fun (and bizarre) boss fights in all of video games.
4. Bob The Killer Goldfish – Earthworm Jim

In the Earthworm Jim games, a supersuit-wearing earthworm faces some pretty strange bosses, including a sentient piece of slime. However, one of the strangest encounters in the series is with Bob the Killer Goldfish. With a name like that, Bob is presented as a mortal enemy who could be more than a match for Jim. Of course, that's not the case, since when first meeting Bob in the first game, Jim simply knocks over his jar, leaving Bob gasping for air. The second time Jim confronts Bob, after Bob makes a grand entrance, Jim approaches, picks up Bob and swallows him. It's a bizarre boss encounter that fits perfectly with the tone of the Earthworm Jim games.

5. Mom – The Binding of Isaac

The Binding of Isaac is a game that wears its weirdness on its sleeve. Isaac is a young child forced to fend off waves and monsters after his mother locks him in their basement. Why is she doing this? Well, because she believes God told her to do it. After surviving all the dangers the cave has to offer, Isaac finally confronts his own mother. Instead of seeing the full horror of Isaac's mother, we only see her veiny leg and chubby arm as she tries to stomp and crush Isaac. It's a funny video game boss fight and one of the most memorable you'll ever encounter.
6. Vortex Queen – Ecco the Dolphin

There's no doubt that Ecco the Dolphin is among the strangest games in history. What begins as a magical journey of navigating a dolphin through tropical coral reefs quickly turns into a battle against a strange alien race called the Vortex. It's a revelation that caught many players off guard, as you quickly found yourself leaving calm coral reefs and navigating strange alien architecture. The final boss of the game is Queen Vortex, who Ecco must hit on the head, like the dolphins, to bring her down.

The fight against the leather-clad, gas mask-wearing entity Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid is considered one of the best boss fights of all time. But the way it unfolds takes it into uncharted territory. While Psycho Mantis' face is enough to scare anyone, it's the way he's supposedly able to read your mind that has scared most who have encountered him. First, by reading the contents of your console's memory card, Psycho Mantis could “know what games you like to play.” Additionally, players had to switch controllers from port to port to prevent it from reading all their movements. Even watching this boss fight, it's easy to see that it was not only a bizarre and even frightening encounter, but also one that even today is considered one of the best in the game.

8. Scarecrow – Batman: Arkham Asylum

Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham Asylum not only proved that superhero games have the potential to be great, but it also gave us one of the strangest and even scariest boss fights in video games. After receiving a dose of Scarecrow's fear toxin, Batman is forced to face a giant version of the villain. While sneaking around and playing what could be considered a side-scrolling platforming section, players must send a Bat-signal to the Scarecrow to blind him and ultimately defeat him. It was a refreshing change from the combo and counter battles that players had participated in up until that point.
