The PlayStation VR2 (also known as PSVR2) is a virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 5 gaming console. It was manufactured by Sony Interactive Entertainment and released on February 22, 2023. The PS VR2 and PlayStation 5 were manufactured at the same time , which took about six years. The goal was to find the best way to combine a console and a virtual reality device.
Ahead of the PS VR2's release, an analyst from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) said the next-generation VR headset would have the highest pixel density on a commercial OLED panel, with a pixel density “much higher than 800 PPI”. Sony introduced the PlayStation VR2 for the PlayStation 5 at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2022.

On November 2, 2022, the official PlayStation blog stated that the game would be released on February 22, 2023, and would cost $549.99. According to Bloomberg, Sony has lowered its hopes for the first launch because pre-orders have not met expectations. Sony denied this rumor and told GamesIndustry.biz: “PlayStation fans are excited for the upcoming launch.”
What is PlayStation VR 2?
Sony's next step into virtual reality is the PSVR 2. It improves on the first PlayStation VR headset, which was released for the PS4 in 2016. The new headset for the PS5 will have a higher resolution, a new eye tracking system, a wider field of view and a new controller-headset tracking system that will replace the old LED-PlayStation Camera method, which was not always reliable.

Over the past five years, PlayStation VR has earned the loyalty of its fans. During its existence, it was still an uncommon accessory, but new models were often released, and a group of loyal fans formed around it. In recent years, however, prices have fallen, leading many VR fans to seek out PlayStation VR bundles as Sony gets rid of its old headset.
When is the PlayStation VR 2 release date?
Sony said in November 2022 that PSVR 2 would be available on February 22, 2023. This came after a blog post in August confirmed that the game would be released in early 2023. This is very different from the release of the first PSVR in October 2016, which is the release date of most of Sony's best devices.
How much does PlayStation VR2 cost?
The PSVR2 costs $549.99, €599.99, or £529.99, and it comes with the Sense controllers. The first PSVR did not come with Move controllers, as the DualShock gamepad could be used instead. Also included in the box is a pair of in-ear stereo headphones.
Horizon: Call of the Mountain is a first-person shooter game offered in a bundle priced at $599.99, €649.99 or £569.99. You can purchase a separate charging station for the Sense controller for $49.99, €49.99, or £39.99.
What features does PlayStation VR 2 have?
Sony hasn't said anything official yet about what the PSVR2 headset will look like. But patents and insider information have given rise to rumors and speculation about its appearance. So far we know the following:
Single cord design
The fact that the PSVR2 headset only has one cord might be one of the most interesting aspects. It could be easier to assemble and more comfortable to wear.
Better image quality
The PSVR2 should feature a higher resolution screen than the first. This will make the images appear clearer and more real. The PSVR2's 4K OLED HDR display lets you see images up to 2000×2040 per eye.
Eye tracking technology
There are rumors that the PSVR2 could feature eye tracking technology to improve the VR experience and prevent you from getting sick.
New controller design
Rumors indicate that Sony will make new VR controllers for the PSVR2, to pair with the headset. The PlayStation Move controllers that came with the first PSVR probably aren't as good as the new ones.

Compatibility with the Backwards system
Sony says the PSVR2 will work with the PlayStation 5, but it's not yet clear whether it will also work with the PlayStation 4.

Most details about Sony's PSVR2 headset are still unknown, but rumors indicate it could feature a single cord, higher-resolution screen, eye-tracking technology, new controllers and work with PlayStation 5.
What are PSVR2 Sense controllers?
The new PSVR2 headset controllers are called PSVR2 Sense Controllers. They replace the PS Move wands used with the first PSVR. They determine where they are by tracking movement from inside to outside.
This means that a network of cameras inside the PSVR2 headset keeps track of their position, so they will always stay where they are, even if you move away from where you started. They also have a number of technologies that help them follow the trajectory better and which come from the DualSense controller.
New orders
Each thumb of the new PSVR2 Sense controllers has its own analog stick, which is different from the PS Move sticks. The Square and Triangle buttons are on the left pad, and the Circle and Cross buttons are on the right pad, just like on a traditional DualSense controller.
Haptic feedback
Like the DualSense controller, the PSVR2 Sense controllers feature haptic feedback that lets you feel different rumble “textures” each time you use them.
Adaptive triggers
Again, PSVR2 Sense controllers are the same as DualSense controllers in that they have triggers that can be changed. This means that when you do something difficult, like shooting a gun, you will feel resistance in the triggers, depending on the game and the situation.
Finger detection
The PSVR2's sensory controllers can detect whether your hands are on the pad or not. This will allow you to move your hands more naturally in the game, so you can make a fist or extend your palm depending on the situation.
What games are supported by PSVR2?
Sony has not made any official announcements regarding which PSVR games will be updated to work with the PSVR2 or which games will only be available for the PSVR2. But it is possible that the PSVR2 headset will also work with some of the new PlayStation 5 games. Since the headset was first presented, many games have been released to the public.
You will be able to play over 40 games during the “launch window”. Hundreds more are in development.
