Mirror Mirror Agencies Model Search: The Hunt Is On

Ever wondered what it would be like to be a model? Ever wondered what it’d be like wearing the most cutting-edge creations of the world’s most innovative fashion designers, mastering “the walk”, and strutting down the catwalk? It’s certainly something everyone has thought about. But there are those out there that have thought about this idea more than once, those that have a passion for the fashion industry, and those that are seeking to be involved in this growing and dynamic field of modelling.

If this sounds like you, there is an opportunity at Brisbane’s Mirror Mirror Agencies to become their next “it” boy or girl. Entrants will be selected at the finalist runway event in King George Square on September 8, chosen by a panel of fashion-savvy judges including a deportment trainer; an internationally-renowned photographer; the Founder and Director of MMA, Tin Nguyen; and Moustache’s very own Fashion Director, Sam Van Grinsven.

Tin is offering amazing awards and opportunities to the Model Search winner, but in return, he expects a high standard of passion, commitment, and hard work from his models. I caught up with Tin and discussed the agency itself, how far it has come, and what the future holds for MMA.

MMA Founder & Director, Tin Nguyen

MM: MMA has been going for the last 3 years now. How much has it grown?

TN: Since 2009 we have come a long way; we are better, bigger, and stronger. But it’s not so much that the agency has grown per se, but it’s caused me to grow a lot, and looking at myself now, I can see how much commitment I have to it and growing even more in the future.

MM: You have background in fashion and music and a flair for business, how did you end up in the modelling field?
TN: To be honest, it was actually just a sequence of events that eventuated into modelling. Initially, I was hosting fashion shows and getting to know designers and models all the time. It was in a conversation with a model that had a lot of potential for a future career. After this conversation about the modelling industry, I realised [that] I wanted to be a part of it. One thing led to another, and I found myself delving into this whole other industry, and I was fortunate enough to enjoy it.

MM: We know from the description what you physically look for in a model, but what do you look for in their personalities?
TN: We have a very high standard in our filtering process; I need to know that they are going to provide my clients with an extraordinary service. If I can’t see them being able to provide maximum commitment and passion in the job, regardless of what else is going on for them at the time, then I can’t hire them. I need someone who has passion not just for the modeling industry, but for people as well. It’s also about how they relate to the other models; one thing I’ve seen consistently between all my models is that they get along very well.

MM: What sort of prospects could the models look forward to when they sign to MMA?
TN: MMA is a small company but is growing all the time and, as a result, our bookings are becoming larger and more exciting. Our biggest one to date is with [international lingerie company] Triumph Lingerie and our model featured in Cosmopolitan Magazine. Other than that, we have had two girls that were in an article for a make-up company, which was featured in Girlfriend Magazine. Also, a number of our girls have modeled for Loreal Professional and a couple are now going to be modelling in the next fashion week.

The prospects for future models are high and exciting, with this ever-growing industry increasing in Brisbane alone. The prize pack for the winner includes a package of amazing prizes including six months worth of cupcakes. Who said modelling couldn’t be tasty? So go ahead! If you’ve got the measurements, the look and the “it” factor, MMA would love to hear from you.
