THE force of Star Wars has been around for several decades, starting in 1977 with George Lucas’ first entry into the two part trilogy. Since then Lucas has created a worldwide phenomenon spanning from six films, merchandise, TV series and video games. In 2005, Lucas delivered Revenge of The Sith and nine years later, the new man behind the lens, J.J. Abrahams, makes an official announcement, that has set fans around the world into a light speed of joy.

Although many expected the 4th of May to be the official announcement, today Abrahams has delivered the full cast of Star Wars VII. The original members such as Harrison Ford (Han Solo), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia), Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) and Kenny Baker (R2-D2) all reprise their famous iconic roles but who joins them is the most exciting part.

After announcing the cast, J.J. Abrams, had the following to say:

“We are so excited to finally share the cast of STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud”.

Meet the new cast, who officially join Star Wars VII:

  • Daisy Idley Daisy Idley
  • Domnhall Gleeson Domnhall Gleeson
  • John Boyega John Boyega
  • Oscar Isaac Oscar Isaac
  • Adam Driver Adam Driver
  • Andy Serkis Andy Serkis
  • Max Von Sydow Max Von Sydow

I cannot be more excited for this film and this cast is fantastic. Adam Driver, who plays Lena Dunham’s boyfriend in GIRLS, has long been attached to Star Wars IV, so there is no surprise his name rocked up on this list. Judging on his character, I am going to assume he will be playing a Sith.

Oscar Isaac, who was recently in the amazing Inside Llewyn Davis, will bring depth to whatever his character may be. Domhnall Gleeson, the son of Brendan Gleeson, who appeared in DREDD, Frank, Anna Karenina and About Time, is the right choice for a young Jedi, but has the potential to play a villain too.

The only new female from the announcement, Daisy Ridley, is an upcoming actress, so being cast in this epic vision, will defiantly see a breakthrough within her career. John Boyega, put himself into the spotlight with his turn in Attack The Block, will certainly see good things coming his way, especially as he is already on everyone’s radar.

The last two to join are Andy Serkis and Max Von Sydow. Both excellent actors in their own rights, and two men you should be excited that they are now a part of this universe. Just taking a look at Von Sydow, I predict he will join Driver as a Sith, even a Sith Lord. I am not sure what Serkis will be doing, but if it is animated or real life, it will be incredible.

Star Wars VII begins shooting soon, and will be released on December 18, 2015.
